Donna Maguire was born and educated in Nova Scotia. Her interest in painting began at age 10 with a gift of a set of oil paints from an art teacher; she still paints exclusively in oils.
McGuire has studied under many famous artists from coast to coast in Canada. As well, an amazing colour course in the south of France revolutionized her paintings and use of colour.
Her work has been shown successfully in many exhibitions and is held by collectors throughout the world.
My home is near Peggy's Cove, exposed on four sides by the wind and sea. My paintings of horses and flowers sing out louder than the wind in colour, line and life force.
My method of painting is unique, marked by a texture of fiberglass resin and glazed under painting in colours of my choosing. Only then does the canvas go on the easel where I slash the paint on with my brush, going back into the glaze. With the horses, I capture the essence of the animal, which excites me as well as my collectors.
