Richards, Kathy

Kathy Richards is a contemporary artist whose passion for life is uniquely conveyed in her work. She is a native of Halifax, who has always been compelled to express her perception of the world in a creative fashion.

Primarily a self-taught artist, she has taken classes at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where she was encouraged to pursue her life's desire with more ardency.

She currently works with acrylic and watercolour to create original paintings that display her own individual style. Her work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and juried shows throughout HRM, and she has been very honored to receive several awards over the years.

Artist statement

Creativity has always been prevalent in my life, as has a great love and respect for life and the world that surrounds us.

I am often in awe of nature and the intricate beauty she has created, as well as by the man-made structures that make up our world. A lot of my inspiration is found within the areas where nature and man co-exist, but I never limit my options.

I always approach each painting on an individual basis, taking into consideration composition, color, contrast, shadow and light. My work usually entails a lot of detail so I often challenge myself, toss aside the rules and go on instinct to achieve what I'm trying to convey.
