Artist’s Statement

I have always drawn and I started painting at university, even selling paintings at a local gallery. My first attempts at landscape were plein air, a practice I continue to use to this day. I was attracted to the work of Degas and the impressionists, among others, and tried to paint what I know—including the landscape, horses and figures from life. The real story of the visual aspect of my work is the ‘light’, and I try to always communicate my love of the subject as well—whether people, horses or landscapes.
