Collection: Stanfield, Kay

Kay Stanfield (BA, BEd) graduated from NSCAD with a BFA and that same year won the inaugural Governor General’s medal.

Her work is in the collection of the Nova Scotia Art Bank, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Canadiana Fund, the Royal Bank, Dartmouth City and Dartmouth Hospital and individual collectors.

Artist statement

My working processes and my conceptual frameworks are interwoven. My papermaking is recycling, a transformation, a making way for new creations.

Encaustic – wax and pigments – is a natural matrix for layering the old and new, making a visual memory.

Stories are universal, as are crows and gulls (almost), and the combination has been a  source for much of my work.
