Collection: Langley, William (Bill)

William (Bill) Langley was raised in Armdale, NS, where he attended Halifax West High. In his mid-teens, he was given a set of oil paints, which ignited his love of the medium. Since his graduation from NSCAD in 1972, Bill has continued to sketch and work with oil paints, increasingly so after his retirement in 2006.

Artist Statement

My artwork represents the two passions of my life: the first being the ability draw at an early age and eventually working with oil paints to capture events and places, and the second being the love of my and my family’s birthplace, Scotland. I visited Scotland in 1969, the first of eleven visits, since my family’s immigration in 1946. My work focuses on South Shore scenes, Historic Halifax, scenic Cape Breton, Scotland scenes, and more recently the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia.
