About Carter Noseworthy
Haligonian, Carter Noseworthy, is the first applicant for the Youth Artist category in the annual Open Water exhibition organized by the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC).
“I’m honoured and thrilled to have been chosen to be part of this exhibition,” says Carter. “Being alongside established artists gives me the opportunity to learn and grow, while helping me become more recognized in the painting world. I believe it’s important to include younger artists in events like this because it gives them the opportunity and confidence to showcase their artistic skills and continue painting in the future.”
CSPWC introduced the new category as part of its 100th anniversary of the international exhibition to encourage and recognize young artists. While the anniversary is an opportunity to review the past 100 years of CSPWC, organizers explained how looking forward to the future is just as important. “We are all better when we can be connected across the country and across the generations,” says CSPWC regional director Gary McFarland.
Carter, 16, is accomplished in many areas, including being a competitive gymnast since the age of eight. He devotes 20 hours a week to training, but in his spare time, he enjoys clay modelling, origami, felting, photography, sketching, and painting. “As I am most comfortable with oils,” says Carter, “this event has helped me exceed my comfort zone, and produce work using the watercolour medium.”
“Last Run at Wentworth” (pictured above) displays the evening view from my last run at Wentworth ski hill,” Carter explains about his exhibition work. “Being an experienced skier, this place holds many memories. I like the way that this sunset casted long and soft shadows on the snow. This piece definitely gave me much confidence in myself with using different mediums.”
