Collection: Melanson, Paulette
Paulette Melanson is a landscape and abstract painter who grew up in Scoudouc, a small Acadian village in Southeastern New Brunswick. She has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. Her art education includes continuing education courses at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, as well as workshops and painting studio sessions from artists she has great respect for.
Paulette decided to get involved in her art practice full time in 2011 after an unrelated career in the public sector. She has been living in Nova Scotia since 1985 and has a studio in Boutilier’s Point, near Halifax.
Artist statement
My art work is about the force of nature, the fragility of life and the connection of all things. After applying many layers of paint in an unconscious manner, I try to find meaning in what I see on the canvas: a particular feeling or mood, places I have visited in the past or, something that has special meaning to me like my Acadian heritage. All my abstract work is created that way. My landscapes, on the other hand, are carefully planned to evoke a mood or a particular feeling about a place. Two themes run through all my works: optimism and tranquility.
