Artist: Peter McCarnan

Peter McCarnan’s painting career stretches over 35 years having achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen's University in 1981. He lives in Shad Bay, NS and works from photos, drawings and memory. Peter has exhibited at shows in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and New York. His work has been featured in various publications, including a book cover for Pottersfield Press. His paintings can be found in private collections both in Canada and internationally. Read more about Peter here. 

What is your biggest indulgence as an artist? 

I paint what I feel like doing and am not swayed by the expectations of others.

What is important to you as an artist? 

Honesty in my work.

What challenges you the most in your practice? 

Being satisfied with the finished work.

What themes or symbols are important to you as an artist?

Animals, buildings and landscapes feature prominently in my work. I gravitate towards these subject matters.
