Collection: Balser, Poppy
Poppy Balser is a watercolour painter inspired by the Bay of Fundy. She is largely self taught, having picked up painting when she moved to Digby, NS in 2000.
In addition to a regular studio practice, Poppy paints outdoors in all seasons, even in winter. She writes about her painting expeditions in her blog, telling the stories of what and where she is painting.
Poppy is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolours and has won several awards of merit, including Best Watercolour at the Inaugural Bermuda Plein Air Festival in 2015.
Artist Statement
I feel tremendously fortunate to live in the Canadian Maritimes. I am surrounded by natural landscapes and am within walking distance of the sea. I paint outside as much as possible, as it lets me really look at the subjects that inspire me. Looking closely helps me to paint things as truly as I can. I paint the scenes that move me so I can share with others the beauty of the surrounding environment.
