Collection: Clarke, Karen

Karen R. Clarke was born and currently lives in Halifax. She graduated from St. Mary's University in 1974 with a B.A. and in 1975 with a B. Ed. After being diagnosed in the early 1990s with a serious illness, and forced to leave teaching, she took Tole Painting classes and thus began her painting career. She has always admired Maud Lewis, creating Christmas cards inspired by her work.

Artist Statement

I am a folk artist. I love painting! It gives me a feeling of freedom to express the “inner me.” I paint when I see something that inspires me. I will paint friends’ requests and I help my seven-year-old granddaughters to paint. I hope that people will enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it!
