Collection: Doehler, Flora

Flora Doehler grew up in Toronto and attended 2 art schools in the 1970’s.  She graduated from the Art Centre at Central Technical School, Toronto with a love of painting, printmaking and weaving. Next, she studied painting at the Kunsthochschule Weissensee in Berlin, Germany.

After searching across Canada for a rural, artist community, Flora and her partner chose Bear River, Nova Scotia as their new home in 2007. The rich cultural life of the community, the natural beauty and the creative possibilities remain the lure.

Artist Statement

My inspiration to paint comes from the beauty and life force of the natural world. My paintings are my emotional reaction to that world.
There is a sensual pleasure to painting life whether outdoors in the field or indoors in a bouquet of fresh flowers. What a pleasure it is to see, smell, touch, sense and hear the scene. My favorite way of interacting with nature is through colour and texture. 

These paintings are portraits of flowers that grow, wild and cultured, in Bear River.
