Artist Statement

My paintings combine my feelings of joy about the natural world in rural Nova Scotia and my love of colour. After a lifetime lived in downtown Toronto, I moved to Bear River, Nova Scotia 10 years ago. I had a yearning for nature, the ocean and a need to grow a large garden of flowers. I never tire of painting these subjects or of capturing scenes of Nova Scotia. I prefer to paint from life and to channel the scene or flower’s energy onto the canvas. A few of my favourite painters are Emily Carr, Georgia O’Keefe, Claude Simard, Franz Marc and Henri Matisse.
