Artist Statement
My interest in painting is to create imagery which presents simplicity - filtered through memory – in an attempt to calm things down, at least visually, while trying to survive in a culture where overstimulation appears to be the name of the game.
Acrylic paint has become my primary medium due to its versatility and less hazardous qualities. Each work involves a buildup of layers which modify the textural surfaces of the canvases or wood supports. Although multiple layers share a passion for colour and texture, I usually allow former images and painting decisions to persist beneath the surface.
