He, Peining

Peining He is an automotive artist based in Halifax. He has drawn cars since childhood and
is self-taught. At age 10, he held his first solo exhibition at the Beijing Auto Museum,
followed by several other exhibitions. His work has been featured on national television in
China, as well as in documentaries and newspapers. He studied at Sheridan College and
now creates paintings of vintage automobiles inspired by local history and the landscapes of
Nova Scotia.

Artist Statement


I have loved drawing cars since I was a child, and this passion is still at the center of my
work today. For me, cars are not just machines, but objects that carry memory, identity, and
a sense of time.
Working mainly in acrylic, I paint vintage automobiles and the places around them. I
am interested in how design, age, and environment all shape the personality of each vehicle.
By placing cars in specific settings, I try to show the connection between objects,
landscapes, and the stories they hold.
My work is based on careful observation, but also on feeling and memory. Through
painting, I hope to preserve small moments from everyday life and highlight the quiet beauty
found in ordinary history.
