Heimlich-Martin, Stephan

Stephan Heimlich-Martin is an oil painter and illustrator. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Stephan now lives in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Stephan painted for many years but his practice of realism in oil began in earnest in 2019. In 2021, he studied realism in oil under the mentorship of the painter Mark Carder and has since continued his own practice since then.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Since I am coming into realism from an illustration background I consider my paintings illustrative, the only difference being the level of complexity of the idea I attempt to communicate. I explore various subjects through a consistent technical style which follows the conventions of other paintings I have enjoyed. Some preferred subjects of mine are food still lifes and livestock paintings.
