Collection: Lanterman, Denise
Denise Lanterman, originally from Nova Scotia, lived on Vancouver Island for many years before finally returning home in 2008.
Although Denise is mostly self taught, she has been attending workshops taught by many accomplished artists since 2003. Her work has been included in numerous group shows, and she was honoured to have one of her paintings chosen for the 2013 Peggy’s Cove Festival of the Arts Calendar. In 2015, one of her works took second place across Canada in The Society of Canadian Artists open online competition, and most recently another has been juried into their 2017 online competition.
Artist Statement
I have always loved art and began my earliest explorations by studying Art History in university. This lead to a desire to create my own art.
I paint in acrylic on canvas and paper. Using gentle colour and simplicity, I hope to convey a sense of calm and quietness in my work.
My chosen subjects are abstracts and what I call impressionistic seascapes and coastal horizons. They don’t represent an actual place, but are an emotional response to my environment and my need to feel uplifted and at peace. I truly hope the viewer has the same experience when they see my work.
