Joel Masewich is a professional artist with over 30 years of experience, educated in BC and Ontario. Joel has exhibited across Canada and the United States, with work in private and corporate collections throughout North America. 

Artist Statement

The main body of my art work has involved the abstract interpretation of nature. Painting trips across the continent have provided a wide range of ideas.

In the last five years, being focused on our new home in Nova Scotia Hiking, kayaking and walking, exploring the landscape of Nova Scotia’s eastern shore. I often take watercolours that gather a sense of that trip.

The most successful watercolours are developed into large scale collage canvases. This studio work combines different mediums, acrylic, stainless steel, copper and recently found wood.

The layering of the materials on top of acrylic on canvas. Trying to capture the excitement of colour and collage interacting with the abstract layers of paint. Always open to new ideas and exploring is how to keep creative ideas alive. I am grateful for the wonderful landscape and people that surround my studio.
