Collection: Petrov, Svilen

Svilen Petrov is a celebrated sculptor based in Nova Scotia, renowned for his mastery of marble, bronze, wood, and ceramic. His work explores the intersection of classical form and abstraction, where material becomes a vessel for emotion, memory, and lived experience. Each sculpture reflects a profound engagement with the moment—its aesthetic presence, its emotional resonance, and its transformation into form. Central to Petrov’s artistic philosophy is a comprehensive exploration of three-dimensional space. His works are conceived not as static objects, but as evolving forms—inviting the viewer to move, observe, and discover shifting perspectives from every angle.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Born in Bulgaria and educated across Europe, my artistic language is deeply rooted in classical training while continuously evolving through innovation. My work challenges contemporary sculptural norms by weaving together tradition and experimentation, resulting in a body of work that resonates on both intimate and universal levels. Through a refined balance of discipline and intuition, I create sculptures that transcend materiality—becoming expressions of cultural memory, personal experience, and artistic inquiry. My sculptures are distinguished by their intricate dialogue between form and narrative. His work reflects a synthesis of cultural influences, materials, and lived experience—forming a layered and evolving artistic language. Currently, my practice is moving toward a more introspective dimension, exploring themes of balance, transformation, and meaning.
