Collection: Revina, Iuliia

Born in 1982 in Samarkand, Iuliia began her formal art education at the age of eleven, when her early passion for drawing led her to enroll in a local art school. In 2002, she graduated from the K. A. Savitsky Art School—one of the most respected classical institutions, known for preserving the traditions of academic fine art. After graduation, professional opportunities in the arts were limited. She initially worked in non-artistic roles, including at a factory and a newspaper, before eventually building a career in the emerging game industry. Today, she works as an art lead, directing visual development and storytelling in digital spaces.

Despite her work in digital media, traditional painting has always remained at the heart of her practice. Iuliia works exclusively from life—never from photographs—through plein air painting, still-life, and portraiture. Her focus is on capturing atmosphere and the emotional quality of light: a sudden breeze, the warmth of the sun, the hush of morning fog. Iuliia's goal is to preserve and communicate the quiet beauty of fleeting moments, often through simple visual narratives. Iuliia continues her artistic education through mentorships and courses with respected artists in plein air painting, environment and light, color scripting. These experiences have helped refine her approach while reinforcing my commitment to observation-based, emotionally grounded work. Now based in Halifax, she continues to explore the dialogue between traditional and contemporary art, always grounded in direct experience and a love for natural light.

Artist Statement

As an art lead in the game industry, I turn to traditional painting to stay connected to the physical world. I practice from life—plein air, still-life, portrait, and sketching focusing on light, atmosphere, and the mood of a moment. Whether it’s fog rolling in, the heat of the sun, or a passing breeze, I aim to translate vibration light into brushstrokes, preserving a sense of presence and place. Each piece is also a quiet narrative —I like to tell simple stories through colour, setting, and gesture.
