Collection: Sloan, Brian
Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Brian has called Nova Scotia home since 1976. He trained and worked as a graphic artist in the days of black ink and glue pots, before studying and working as a mechanical draftsman.
In 1982, Brian entered the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design to study painting, drawing and art history. He graduated in 1993, and since then has continued a practice that has included making, teaching and showing work within the province.
Artist Statement
Brian takes inspiration from natural and industrial patterns, texture and colour, while allowing multiple viewpoints and chance to enter his work. His eye is drawn to the gardens and forests where strength and delicacy contrast through seasonal change, and to the shoreline where the sky and water meet the land. He always has a bag packed at the door, ready to take the next opportunity to make some more art.
