Collection: Smith, Raymond

Raymond is a lifelong resident of the Halifax- Dartmouth area.

He began painting as a young man, taking classes from Ruth Wainwright. He has subsequently taken classes from a number of other teachers whose work has inspired him.

A busy career and family life cut into his painting time but retirement has afforded him the luxury of time to devote to his "second career."

He has shown in various local galleries. His work can be found in private collections across Canada and the United States.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As a lifelong gardener, I have always been intrigued by color, texture and light. Painting is an extension of my love of nature with the added bonus of making me a far more observant spectator.

Although my preferred medium is acrylic, I also enjoy watercolor and pastels.

I find myself studying skies, marveling at the play of light on water, and pondering how to recreate the varieties of blues and greens to be found in nature.

Painting for me is an opportunity to continue to learn and to grow. It keeps me young.
