Soper, Denise

Denise Soper was born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, and grew up in St. John's. She moved to Halifax in 1974 where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1978.
Denise enjoys working primarily in oil and her paintings reflect her love of nature; she particularly enjoys painting "en plein air". She has furthered her studies through classes and workshops with Heather Sayeau, Roger Savage, and most recently Charles Sovek. Her work may be found in collections across Canada and abroad.
Denise's paintings can be seen at The Art Sales and Rental Gallery in Halifax and at Details Past and Present, Charlottetown, PEI. She has also donated works to the IWK Kermesse and the Association for Adolescent Mental Health.

Artist Statement

Painting is my way of seeing and trying to understand the colour of light and shadow. To capture shape, colour, patterns, and value in paint on canvas is a constant challenge and delight.
