Collection: Sutcliffe, Alex
Alex Sutcliffe began his artistic practice growing up just outside the city of Chicago, IL. Alex was drawing his hands and copying images from books from the time he could hold a pencil. This passion eventually brought him to NSCAD University where he will be entering the final year of his Bachelor in Fine Arts degree.
Artist Statement
Much of my work consists of figurative paintings focusing on the nature of close relationships. I am interested in representing the human form, particularly the conscious and unconscious psychology occurring between the subject and artist. In my life size paintings I depict people in a liminal state, giving viewers a place to interpret the work. Within this space I hope to provide people with a place to confront personal beliefs, histories, and biases surrounding the human figure, the picture plane, and their relationship to meaning in these paintings.
