Alex Pfaff was born 1961 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. He predominantly paints in acrylic on canvas and ink on paper. He is self-taught, passionate, ambitious and has a committed eye to detail and precision.
Alex has chosen Halifax, NS, Canada as his home where he is intrigued by nature and inspired by the native people from around the world.
Alex transforms colors with clear lines in combinations of forms and shapes. His art communicates the ever developing and changing nature of the beautiful world around us. With every paint stroke and colour choice, he brings everything he has to the canvas. He carefully observes the reactions of the spectators that share in his work and uses that feedback to create future pieces.
Alex has participated in many solo and group shows. His work is quickly becoming well recognized and sought after.
One of the happiest days of my life was in 1999, when I received my Canadian citizenship. It was always my dream to come to Canada and live close to nature and wildlife. I was drawn to its history and the possibilities of life in such a large country.
At the age of 20 I started to experiment with all kinds of materials and colors to make creative art. Then life and work led me in other directions. Finally, years later in winter 2014, I started painting again, feeling connected to an inner world that needed to be expressed and the paintings came, one after another.
My introduction to Woodland style paintings, to the native peoples West Coast Style art, plus everything from my earlier life including collecting art has shaped my work. Colors with clear lines and combinations of forms and shapes, communicate the ever developing and changing nature of the beautiful world in and around us.
